Feng Shui is the Chinese philosophical system of harmonizing everyone with the surrounding environment. According to this, every object with specific measures and at a specific location will radiate harmonic energy.
Lǔ Bān was a master of the Feng Shui and the father of the Chinese ancient carpenters. He was the inventor of the saw, chisel and many other carpentry tools, including the Lu Ban ruler. He is also the author of the 鲁班经 Lǔ Bān Jīng ‘Divine Carpenter’s Classic’, the Chinese building manual dating from the early 明 Míng dynasty.
The manual details an enigmatic assortment of information, both of a technical and ritual nature, with regard to the building of dwellings.
Lu Ban ruler has been used over a thousand years. Of course, a ruler cannot change the destiny; however, the utilization of an ancient belief into architecture allows the builders to reduce negative energy and create positive energy.

There are more than 20 different types of rulers or set of measurements depending on the proposal of the object to be measured. The most common rulers are:
The most common ruler is a Feng Shui ruler tape suitable for the Yang and Yin shown below.

Every Luban Ruler has a specific length divided into sections of equal auspicious (good luck) and non auspicious (bad luck) portions. Each section is then divided into more specific sub-sections. After the last section the pattern repeats.
The specific length of object depends on which blessing the users wish to receive; different length has different meaning.
The ruler is divided into two areas; the top line is corresponding to the Yang (42.9cm for solid constructions) and the bottom line for the Yin (38.8cm for furniture).
Red numbers mean favourable (auspicious) measure and black numbers unfavourable (non auspicious).
At LiK Vietnam, we use the 38.8cm ruler to measure our wooden objects. We encourage to use this ruler to everyone who wants to build furniture by using the LiK wooden blocks.
The ruler tape that we recommend on our website has the 2 types of Luban (38.8cm and 42.96cm) because in real life if you want to achieve good luck sometimes you have to sacrifice something. I.e. a measure that gives promotion or prosperity in your job, however can imply separation in your relationship.
Check out your Feng Shui Ruler tape or the Feng Shui Calculator below to check your measurements before creating.
Furniture and land-related measurement / Yin (Death objects): furniture, tombs or an altar.
Solid constructions & Yang Houses (Living) such as concrete kitchen and staircase step.
